HOW TO TAKE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE:

1- Wait 30 Minutes: Avoid measuring blood pressure within 30 minutes of eating, smoking, drinking caffeinated beverages, or exercising, as these activities can temporarily raise blood pressure.

2- Relax for 5 Minutes: Sit at a table with your back supported, arms on the table, and feet flat on the floor. Do not cross your legs, and use the restroom if needed, as these can affect readings.

3- Position the Cuff: Extend your arm with the palm facing up. Place the cuff 2 fingers above your elbow, ensuring it's snug but allows you to insert 2 fingertips under it.

4- Align Cuff Properly: Some cuffs have alignment markers; follow the machine’s instructions carefully to ensure accurate readings.

5- Prepare for Reading: Once ready, remain still without moving, chewing, talking, or laughing.

6- Take Two Readings: After the first reading, wait a minute and take a second reading. If the first reading is significantly higher, take an additional reading.

7- Monitor Your Blood Pressure: Understand your readings and lifestyle factors. Consider using a blood pressure monitoring app for assistance.

BLOOD PRESSURE NUMBERS:

Know your numbers! Here's the scoop: For most folks, your blood pressure at home should ideally be below 130/80mmHg unless told otherwise by your medical provider. If it's higher than that, it's crucial to chat with your healthcare provider. Elevated blood pressure can up your chances of heart problems, kidney issues, and strokes, so it's wise to keep an eye on it!
