INTERMITTENT FASTING BENEFITS:

Intermittent fasting operates on the premise of granting your body a reprieve from the constant digestion of food. This approach may result in a lower overall calorie intake compared to more frequent eating patterns. Moreover, the less frequent meals associated with intermittent fasting can positively impact blood sugar levels, particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with prediabetes or type two diabetes.

Another potential effect of intermittent fasting is the initiation of autophagy, a process in which the body eliminates damaged cells during periods of reduced food digestion. While there is some evidence suggesting that autophagy may decrease the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases, further research is necessary to establish these connections conclusively.

Additional potential benefits of intermittent fasting which need more research to support, encompass enhanced gut health, improved sleep, diminished cardiovascular risk factors (including lower blood pressure), and a reduction in inflammatory markers linked to various chronic diseases.

IS INTERMITTING FASTING SAFE:

Research suggests that it can be safe for healthy adults. But there’s not enough evidence to show what would happen if you did this type of fasting for a long time. There are also some circumstances where it would not be suitable.

• If you are pregnant or trying to conceive or breastfeeding

• Have type 1 diabetes

• Have a history of disordered eating

So, it’s worth checking with your doctor if you have any health issues or concerns.

BMI CALCULATOR:

Before beginning any diet it’s definitely worth checking if you actually need to lose weight as you may already be at a healthy weight and the easiest way to do this is to check your BMI at the following link: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/
