How to swallow big pills if you can't and a capsule

Learn how to swallow a pill and swallow big pills if you can't or swallow a capsule if you can't.

WHY SWALLOW PILL OR CAPSULE:

Capsules are a type of medication enclosed in an outer shell. The shell breaks down in the intestines, where the medication is then absorbed into the bloodstream and metabolised (in the same way as a pill).

Tablets are the most common form of pill – they offer an inexpensive yet highly effective way to deliver medication orally. Tablets are made by compressing one or more powdered ingredients together to create a solid, smooth-coated pill that breaks down within the digestive tract.

POP BOTTLE TECHNIQUE FOR PILLS:

Ok so for this technique you’re gonna need your pill and a water bottle, nothing fancy thats all we need.

1- Fill your water bottle with water.

2- Place the tablet on your tongue.

3- Close your lips tightly around the bottle. So you need to make sure the plastic bottle mouth isn't too wide.

4- Take a drink keeping contact between the bottle and your lipids and using a sucking motion to swallow the water and pill.

From the research it was found that the pop bottle method was more effective when swallowing large tablets. For capsules the lean forward technique which Im going to discuss next was more favourable, but feel free to try them both to see what works best for you!

PRO TIPS FOR SWALLOWING PILLS AND CAPSULES:

Tip 1: Have A Full Glass Of Water After Swallowing Your Tablet Or Capsule - This will prevent it ever getting stuck in your oesophagus and potentially causing damage.

Tip 2: Do Not Crush, Disperse Your Tablets Or Open Your Capsules - This shouldn't be done without speaking to your healthcare professional, yes some medication you may be able to do it but quite a lot of them you cannot and it can stop it working correctly or worse yet cause serious side effects. Speak to your pharmacist if you cannot swallow pills as they may be able to advise you further.
